Monday 23rd March – ski ***** - Semnoz – sunny periods.

We were awake just in time to see the sun come up above the mountains opposite our van at 6.45, just lovely, there was even a photographer up here with his camera on a tripod across the way taking pics, it is looking very promising for a few hours skiing as its our last day before we start the long journey home:( We were aiming to head up to the slopes around 10 so were in no hurry so read in bed, had breakfast and got our ski gear on but the clouds were now rolling over but we decided to give it a try. This is an unusual place to park being at the top of the little ski resort which means you have to ski done to buy a lift pass. We had to walk a couple of hundred metres before we reached the fantastic green run through the snowy trees, after yesterday’s snow the pistes were perfect and we were the first to ski down this run, another pinch yourselve moment! Semnoz is also unique in as much as you can pay by the hour with a minimum of two hours and is very reasonable, in fact a 7 day pass here is only 106 Euros, we decided to pay for three hours which cost us 36 Euros, we were a little sad because we wish our Grandchildren were here as it would be the perfect place to learn to ski, in fact it is a wonderful area for so many sports and activities including, skiing, snowboarding, snow kiting, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, hiking, cycling, paragliding, winging, windsurfing, canoeing or just sitting in the van taking in the amazing scenery! We spent the best part of our three hours enjoying most of the runs this little resort offers while the snow was at its best, so quiet too, we had the pistes to ourselves on most runs! There was a couple of buttons open at the bottom for the beginner runs and a long chairlift which takes you to the top of Cret De Chatillon at 1702m with brilliant runs down to the left and right, we certainly could not fault the pistes today. We had enough time to ski over to the other long chairlift to the right, it was a nice green down but the snow was not as good here, a little lumpy and sticky at the bottom meaning our old skis did not run very well so we headed back over to Semnoz for two last long runs down the brilliant blue offering a glimpse of Lac Annecy far below, now knackered it was time to call it a day and head back to the van after a brilliant morning! We pack the ski gear away and have lunch with a top snowy view before moving away, we manage to get out of the snow easy enough and are on our way down the mountain!

Walk *** - Annecy.

It is a lovely road down to St Jorioz a popular route with road cyclists and we spot at Lidl for a few bits before parking just outside the old part of Annecy, poor Mag had all sorts of trouble taking a parking ticket but she did it and we were soon ambling along the Lac to the old town, to be honest we were way too tired to do this and being fairly crowded with tourists it was not our favourite but it is pretty enough so we did nearly a couple of mile before returning to the van after the usual selfie on a Lac jetty! Being tired we did not want to drive too far for the night so ended up in a little lay-by high above Talloires with brilliant views of the Lac, we have spent a couple of nights here a few years ago when our van broke down! Mag had to sort out an annoying buzzing from the control panel in the camper by removing some fuses, she is a star, we have a starry sky and a crescent moon for our last night, perfect end to a perfect time in the mountains:)
